Established in 2011, Past Tense Graduate Review of History is the graduate history journal at the University of Toronto. The journal’s mission is to provide a platform for young and promising historians from around the world to showcase their original research in a peer-reviewed publication.

Focus and Scope: Past Tense provides a forum for developing scholars to gain experience with academic publishing. The journal publishes original research articles, book reviews, and critical commentaries about issues in the field of history.  It welcomes submissions from researchers of all disciplines and institutions on topics that concern a broad range of time periods and geographies. Past Tense is published online with the support of the University of Toronto’s Department of History.

Open Access: This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Peer Reviewed: Submissions to Past Tense undergo an anonymous peer review process by three reviewers.

Publication Frequency: Past Tense publishes one issue annually. New issues are available for download by early May.
